High interest rates attract investment from abroad? Do high interest rates attract investment from abroad but encourage traditional saving (ex. a normal consumer saves up instead of buying a car or such) Is this correct? If not, could you explain in simple terms and in detail, please? Im still at a school level.. Thanks in advance!
High Interest Savings or Investment Options? I'm 16 and I want to start investing. What would be the best route to take for long term investment and also which is best for like 2 years of letting it grow? And what banks and stuff out there have the highest compound interest rate? Thanks so much!!
What's the best way to sit on my money, and has a high interest rate? Hi, I have been putting my money into an ordinary savings account from my local bank, but the interest rate isn't very high, would it be better to place it ion a Money Market Fund or find a savings account at somewhere like WaMu? The stock market is a little to unstable for me right now and would like to stay away form any high risk investments. Any Advice?
Why does Russia (and Brazil) have unusually high interest rates? Of course their central banks need to keep rates high to keep capital in, but why do they have such a difficult time doing so, when compared to other developing countries? Russia is especially surprising, considering how its resource export base keeps the current account balance generally pretty far into a surplus. Also, despite the antiquated industrial base, Russia should have a general overcapacity seeing its pattern of Soviet Era industrialization. You would think this would depress prices, furthering the incentive to save, and keep interest rates low. However, for whatever reason, there is a strong disincentive to save in both Brazil and Russia, keeping inflationary pressures high, and the necessity for high interest rates. What precisely is making these countries have higher interest rates when compared to the developing countries of East Asia? How are the high interest rates doing a superior job of attracting capital (and improving the incentive to hold cash) when compared to say, the general decent investment environment in Brazil. Both countries have recently been having significant troubles with hot inflows, so what is the use for these high rates? If someone can give me a detailed description of the mechanisms going on here, that would be great. Thanks!
Canadian High Interest banks? I need some common Canadian Banks (like Scotiabank and stuff) exept they need to have a high investment rate in savings accounts.... Which ones can u think of?
ECONOMICS QUESTION: If the interest rate rises..why does investment spending will decrease? I'm really confused when it comes to some things in my chapter on "monetary policy"... if the interest rate rises, asset demand decreases (because ppl will not hold on to their money, they will invest it in bonds and things like that to yield a high interest/profit on it).. BUT it also says that as interest rate rises...investment spending decreases?? How does that make sense.. why wouldn't investment spending increase???
Where can I find the best interest rates for investment? I'm getting our of the military soon, and would like to set-up a long term investment account with a high interest rate. Ok, now when ur talking about 3.8% and all thats yearly right? Not 3.8% for the whole durration of the investment
Who should you vote for in the UK if you want control of interest rates to revert to the Treasury? In 1997 New Labour immediately gave the Bank of England independent control over interest rates. All three major parties now seem to agree on this I cannot see how it makes sense to separate one mechanism of economic regulation from others, e.g. taxation and government regulation. I think that Government should only regulate lightly, but it should control all the mechanisms to do so. Giving control of interest rates to the bankers and economists leads to its use for the interests of the financial and commercial sectors, which benefit from high rates, as opposed to manufacturing which needs low rates for investment. Also, high interest rates and low inflation benefit the rich compared to the poor. The bank is using high interest to largely to prevent house price inflation despite other negative effects of this policy. It would be better to hit house prices selectively by taxation. Do you agree that these are reasons to give control of interest rates back to Government? Yes, Bexs. I remember the late 80s bitterly. My house wasn't repossessed but I had to sell it at a big loss when I was out of a job and doing an MSc course.

High yeild investment programs..... scam or actually a quick way to make money the risky way? Has anyone here tried a high yeild investment program online? (HYIP's) Are they legal? They advertise paying out unbelievable amounts of daily compounded interest. Seems like making money on them is possible but, you would have to get out in time before the bubble bursts. examples of the websites that I am referring to are: solidinvestment.com, value-discovery.com, newbiehangout.com/hyip and the like. There are a lot more out there, just type in "high yield investment program" into the Yahoo search engine and see what type of websites it lists
What is the interest rate for high credit scores and the differences in rates? If one is prime rate. Credit score above 780. Are the final interest rates they quote you lower than what is advertise on their website? I am considering using a mortgage broker however their rates seem higher than the bank + the cost seems higher. If the rate is what they advertise, I might just go to the bank directly first and save my time. The mortgage broker seems to be on top of things and most likely have better info on closing etc. which is their only selling point but if the interest rate is higher than the competitor I am reluctant to go with it since they will hit my credit score if I apply. Simply put money is money a little .25% can equal 60K over the life of the loan. Something that could sit in investment generating returns for me. In general what is the difference in the interest rate for prime/ A credit scores? Are the advertised rates using prime rates or just average rates? Thanks in advance
Would it be a good idea to start a 401K as a recreational savings account? For instance, say I was planning on travelling throughout Europe in a couple years. Would it be better to start a 401K (with my company matching my contribution), and take out the money with penalty in a couple years, or would it be better to put it in a high interest investment? Thank you for all.
What's the highest yearly interest I can get on a very very long term investment? I'm 17 right now. I want to throw in about 1000 dollars in an account. I was thinking a CD, IRA, Roth IRA, or some sort of mutual fund. I'll be adding about 100 per month, and I'm not touching the account till I'm at least 60. I heard the average yearly return for the market is 13%, is there a mutual fund that will guarantee me this?
If, as it seems inevitable, high inflation is coming, would a high interest fixed account of 6.7% for 1 year? on offer from some banks be a good investment? Food prices are already going up, and are forecast to go up even higher next year. There is a worldwide rush for raw materials, and China, the workshop of the world, is going to put up prices on many goods such as DIY and household goods. As we approach preparations for the Olympics, labour and material costs are expected to rise steeply in the UK. Where is a good place for savings to escape the ravages of inflation, or is it better to spend it now on getting goods while they are still cheap(er)? Is it better to buy now long-live and durable items such as electric drill, vacuum cleaner, tin food, etc. than to wait? So far very disappointing answers. YA is not a advertising bill-board and I didn't ask for a loan, you illiterate idiot. The fact that I mentioned UK in my question (and 6.7%) should give you a clue of the context. And price inflation of goods from China is not the only factor. You can't advise people if you're not a careful reader. Actually, so-called 'Finance Expert', I have held back stronger expletives that are regularly used on this site. The guy is an obvious scammer trying to tout for suckers. The address in Nigeria should have altered you, but then 'experts' like you must stick together.
Does the interest I earn on my investments affect my FAFSA? I am a college sophomore. I earned about $5000 last year in interest from savings and investments. My total income for the year, however, was still only about $18,000 including this interest. Even though my total income is low, will the high interest amount I earned adversly affect my chances of qualifying for federal student aid next semester?

Why are higher interest rates good for the Economy? I read the news that the Bank of Japan is going to increase the interest rates.I thought that low interest rates promote investment and boost the confidence in the economy. So, why does the Bank of Japan want to raise the interest rates..
High interest rate in the 1980's - what caused it ? I worked for a very large Savings & Loan in the early 1980's, and interest paid on CD accounts went crazy. We offered these short term investments, where if you plunked down $1,000 minimum, you could earn 15-17 percent some insanely high amount of interest. What fueled those high interest rates ? ------------------------------------------------ Veritas, More details please ?
Interest rates vs bond prices? I dont understand why when interest rates increase, bond prices decrease, shouldn't higher interest rates encourage investment since there is more ROI? which in turn will make bonds more desireable and more expensive?
Getting a second home that I will live in within 5/6 months with a low interest loan.? I am a RE investor in training. And I just got a property that I am suppose to live in as my principal home. I will rent out the rest of the rooms to generate cash flow. However I want to buy another property to generate more cash flow. But I want to get a low loan rate if possible. Is it possible to get a second loan without having to get an investment loan with high interest? I had a couple people tell me that in about 5-6 months I can write a letter to my lender and tell them that I dont like to live there anymore for any reason, ie hate the location, don't like the neighbors, etc. and that I want to buy a second home and live in there. That way I can go out and get me another loan for a low rate and have that as my new principal property, while keeping the first home to rent out for cash flow. These guys already has 6 homes and tells me that is how they has been doing it. Is this legal?
